Frequently Asked Questions

Take the first step in improving your family or personal situation. Below are frequently asked questions and responses to get you started. The length of time a client is in counseling depends on the nature of the problem and the treatment goals. Some clients have a very specific problem that can be worked through in a set course of counseling sessions. For others, counseling is an on-going learning process and they choose to receive counseling for a longer period of time. This is something that can be discussed and decided upon with Cynthia at any stage of therapy.
It is always best to schedule a free 30-minute consultation with Cynthia before beginning treatment. In the consultation session, you will be introduced to the therapeutic process. You will be given an opportunity to briefly discuss what brings you to therapy and your desired outcome. At this time, you are also given an opportunity to ask questions pertinent to Cynthia’s education, training and experience in order to ensure that she is best suited for you and your therapeutic needs.
Cynthia is currently an in-network provider for Blue Shield and the California Victim Compensation Program (CalVCP).

For all other types of insurance, Cynthia is considered an “out-of-network” provider. You will need to check with your insurance company to determine if you have coverage for therapy and the types of therapy covered (individual, family and/or group). An invoice can be submitted to your insurance company for your reimbursement.

Due to the complexities involved with medical billing, Cynthia utilizes a medical billing service. Upon scheduling a counseling session with Cynthia the billing service can be notified, and insurance eligibility verified and coverage clarified before sessions begin.

Cynthia currently accepts cash, checks, money orders and all major credit cards.
Cynthia’s current fee for an individual, couple and/or family is $120 per session payable by check, cash or credit card.

Fees for classes and groups vary.

Individual sessions are usually 45 – 50 minutes in length. Most clients are seen once a week initially. Then, as time goes on, less frequently. The number of sessions ultimately depends on what your current needs are.
It is office policy to charge the client and/or responsible party for appointments that are not canceled or changed in a timely manner or when the client fails to attend the session for any reason. This is a standard practice for psychologists and other professional therapists due to the demands on limited appointment times in order to assist clients. Please ask for any clarification if you have any questions or concerns.

  • Appointments must be cancelled at least 24 hours in advance to avoid incurring a charge.
  • The fee for late cancellations or failed appointments is equal to the charge for a full session.
