The Power of Positive Thinking

Research has shown that children grow up with a positive attitude or positive tendencies have higher self-esteem, and great social and academic success. The Power of Positive Thinking program is designed to provide a social environment that enables children to interact with their peers through various hands-on group activities.

This program is designed to teach children:

  • What a thought is
  • That a thought has power and influences emotions and behaviors
  • How to recognize that events in life will not always feel fair and that there are skills to handle situations positively
  • How to take responsibility for thoughts, emotions and actions that promote constructive choices and positive outcomes

Social Skills Development

Establishing and maintaining peer relationships can be a challenge. The Social Skills Development program offers an opportunity to learn and practice social skills in a safe, fun and encouraging environment. This program will assist children who have trouble reading social cues and/or initiating and maintaining conversations with others.

This program is designed to teach children:

  • How to listen using the “whole body” (i.e., appropriate eye contact, friendly body language)
  • Effective ways to initiate and maintain peer conversations
  • How to join and initiate play with peers
  • How to play fair and follow rules
  • Compromising, negotiating and problem-solving skills

Emotional Regulation

Many struggle to cope with stress, anxiety and transitions. Children with low thresholds for frustration, tendencies toward negativism, or difficulties tolerating losing or getting their way, demonstrate this stress with an extreme emotional reaction (meltdown) or a closed emotional reaction (shutdown). The Emotional Regulation program helps children learn to recognize their feelings before being taken over by them.

This program is designed to teach children:

  • How to cognitively manage emotions by realizing when they may be vulnerable to a stressful situation
  • Relaxation skills in order to improve the ability to calm themselves in order to make better choices
  • Problem-solving skills

In a group setting with shared experiences, children will see they are not the only person facing struggles in life. This will help lead to increased self-esteem and confidence.
